Needing God

Needing God

I heard an old hymn that says we need God every hour of the day. I know people who don’t believe that’s true.

Some feel they’re doing quite well on their own. They are in good health, have a great job, and enjoy pleasure-filled relationships. Since they believe they are in control, confident in their future, they don’t see an hourly need for God.

Others are struggling. They don’t have money to pay the rent. Their health is failing. If they attend church at all, they do so only occasionally, when it’s convenient. They don’t see much evidence of God working in their lives. Perhaps God created the world and left them to survive on their own. Since they don’t visualize God helping them, they don’t recognize an hourly need.

Does our hourly need for God depend our ability to recognize both our need and his desire to meet our need?
